EMERGENCY WATER DAMAGE TIPS
After fire, water, vandalism and other related damage, it is
natural for a person to want to clean a building or home and contents. Timely
action can be a great help. It is also true that incorrect or delayed action
can jeopardize or seriously impede satisfactory restoration. The following
emergency tips are compiled by members of the National Institute of Fire
Restoration and are based on their wide experience in this field. It is not
likely that you will require all procedures listed. Examine your situation and
use those steps which common sense dictates.
DO'S AND DON'T OF WATER DAMAGE

DO NOT...
Leave
wet fabrics in place: dry as soon as possible. Hang furs & leather
goods to dry separately at room temperature.

your household vacuum to remove water or wet/dry vacuum as an electric
shock may result, as well as spread of biocontaminants (sewer).
Consume
any food that may have been left out in a sewage contaminated area.
Turn
on any air movers that could spread any contaminants from a sewer back up.
Use

not on concrete floors.

ceilings are sagging from retained water.
